It is in the same vein as sword-slashing games like Sword Master or Swing Sword, with simple controls that make it easy to jump straight into combat. The monster designs borrow from toy-horror games kids know well, which gives the fights a familiar, slightly spooky flavor.
The challenge is agility as much as attack: monsters come from several directions, and staying mobile is key to surviving long fights.

Keep moving and strike from the edge of groups. Charging into the middle of a pack leaves you open to attacks from behind.
